Hand stitched with twelve
silk and woven Obi sashes and some gold metal threads.
The middle stretch is a vintage Maru-obi, the patterns
are woven on double wide fabric, bent and stitched, pre
forties, and once used for an unmarried woman's formal
wear. The woven patterns reveal cranes, Japanese fans,
Tsuzumi (Japanese hand drums), screens, Kikko-mon (hexagonal),
Tatewaku (in two vertical curves), Hanamaru-mon (flowers
in a circle), chrysanthemums, and peonies. The basic color
is red but a lot of colors are in it. The back side is
made from upholstery grade 100% silk fabric (not from
Japan), in beige and a Japanese tie-dyed Kimono silk fabric
which is orange. Quilter's Dream unbleached organic 100%
cotton batting is in it. |
